Read It as Your Manager Would
Before you automate, calibrate. Read the draft as your manager: do they get decisions they need? Is risk visible? Is fluff gone?
Lesson 2
Format is a relationship skill.
New CFO, shorter updates, hates vague language — boss context belongs in the agent later; you notice the gaps here first.
Core principles
- Ask: Would my manager actually like this?
- Ask: What is missing that they always ask about?
- Ask: What would I tweak — tone, section order, level of detail?
- Lead with decisions needed when your boss said they want that — not buried in activity bullets.
- A good chat draft is the spec for your agent instructions.

Why read the draft as your manager before building an agent?
An agent codifies a pattern. If the pattern is wrong for your manager, you automate the wrong thing every Friday.
Do this in Copilot
Score your draft 1–5 on boss-fit. List two specific tweaks before you build the agent.
Paste this into Copilot Chat and work through it before moving on.
